DNA Extraction Buffers

Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS) is a detergent that wraps around proteins to help isolate them from the DNA. It is also called Sodium dodecyl sulfate, Dodecyl sodium sulfate, SLS, Lauryl Sodium Sulfate, Sodium Laurylsulfate, Sulfuric acid monododecyl ester sodium salt C12H25NaO4S.

It is commonly used in shampoos, and a simple baby shampoo is a good basis for a DNA extraction. One source for SDS is The Chemistry Store.
